A Journey Back And Forth is a travelling exhibition (created by Swedish Traveling Exhibitions together with The Historical Museum in Stockholm) for children ages 6-11 where they get to explore the past, present and future through different interactive stations. The exhibition will be held in several locations until mid 2014, starting out at the Historical Museum in Stockholm.
Challenge
Swedish Traveling Exhibitions and The Historical museum wanted a website for the exhibition in order to attract and inspire potential visitors. It would have to appeal to the target audience and give them a sneak peak of what the exhibition is all about and should hopefully also be a place to which they would return after having been there. It also had to accomodate practical information for parents and teachers as well as the possibility for the exhibition crew to document the exhibition over time. Since the exhibition will run over several years in different locations it was also important that it would be very dynamic in terms of displaying information related to where the exhibition is currently held.
Design/Solution
The exhibition is compiled by artwork created by several different prominent swedish artists and creatives all giving their take on the prehistorical ages, present, as well as their fantasies of the future. With different installations they invite the children to discover and use their ingenuity to shape the experience. For the website we wanted to highlight both the fantastic artwork produced solely for the exhibition as well as provide some interaction and a sense of being on this journey from prehistorical ages to the present and into the future. To do this we chose to go with a slideshow function for the startpage where various application are presented in different environments from the exhibitions. One of those applications was a “Make your own character”-game created in co-operation with Lemberg Solutions.
It was important to make the site accessible why everything is made using platform-independent technologies. The site is powered by WordPress.
